Authorised Motor Vehicle Dealers
Any person wishing to operate a motor vehicle dealing business must first apply to the Land Transport Authority
(LTA) for a licence before he/she can operate that business.

A certificate of Registration will be issued for a period of five years after all the requirements have been met subject to the payment of the prescribed annual fee. A Certificate for which the annual fee has not been paid is of no effect.

No person shall sell by auction or tender a motor vehicle or operate a motor vehicle dealing business without being the holder of a motor vehicle dealing certificate.

Any person who operates the business without the licence commits an offence and is liable on first conviction to a fine of $500 or three-month imprisonment upon second conviction a fine of $1,000 or six months imprisonment.

Requirements
Applicants must have;

  • Parking space for customers
  • Showroom
  • Parking area for vehicle sale
  • Receptionist area, customer waiting room
  • Adequate space for spare parts
  • Test bay for observation area
  • Jacking equipment for viewing of underside of vehicle
